Weekend activities
Festival, craft fair at BL
BASS LAKE - This community hosts its 17th annual Bass Lake Fall Festival and Craft Fair this weekend.
There will be plenty of fun and lots to do and see Saturday and Sunday [October 2-3].
Activities begin at 9 a.m. both days, continuing until 5. Admission and parking will be free.
The events at the Pines Village are sponsored by the Bass Lake Chamber of Commerce and The Craft Fair.
Artists and crafters will be bringing work for sale such as country folk art, pottery by Scott Vaughn, jewelry of all kinds, clothing, birdhouses, Hmong needlepoint by Welma Vang, fine art, and more.
For those who don't know about "pa dau, the Hmong needlepoint, it means "flowering cloth, and is very traditional and beautiful.
There will be live country, folk and bluegrass music by singer-songwriter Mike Knapp of North Fork.
There will also be gourmet Thai food.

Chris Russell named new Chamber executive
The appointment of Oakhurst business owner Chris Russell as the new executive director of the Eastern Madera County Chamber of Commerce has been announced by the Board of Directors.
Mr. Russell fills a position vacant since the January resignation of Dave Lapic.
He was chosen after a recruitment campaign and interviews of several applicants.
Mr. Russell will begin his new chamber duties on October 25.
In addition to being a partner in Adrianne's, a store in the Silver Creek Center at the north end of Oakhurst, Mr. Russell is also a coordinator of Mountain Marketplace, the highly successful Sunday program that includes the farmers farmer and entertainment.
He has also been very active in the chamber, serving on its Board of Directors since January and coordinating the chamber's weekly Business Forum on Wednesday mornings.
