Freeze victims might qualify for
assistance from federal program
By Staff Correspondent

MADERA - With summer temperatures hitting 100 degrees (or close to it in the Mountain Area), a freeze-damage reminder seems a bit from "Twilight Zone.
Nevertheless, August 9 is the deadline for Madera County residents to apply for mortgage or rental assistance.
Residents facing home foreclosure or eviction as a result of jobs lost or other financial hardship caused by last December's freeze might be eligible.
Sheriff-Coroner John P. Anderson, the county's Emergency Services director, says help might be available from FEMA - the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
There is a toll-free number to call: 800-745-0243.
